Kojin Toneyama was born in Ibaraki prefecture. After he graduated from the literature department at Waseda university in 1943, he joined the Society of Democratic Artists in 1950s. He made his major series, "For the Sakuma Dam" in 1955. Around that time, the energetic and architectural Mexican arts influenced him greatly. He exhibited his solo show in the Modern Art Museum of Mexico, contributed to San Paulo Biennale in 1959. Agira-Costeca Cultural Merit Medal was awarded from the Mexican government in 1972, Yoshida Fifty Architectural Artists Award 1981. --artelino.com
