In her simple still lifes, Jill Mathis creates a balanced harmony of forms, offset by conflicting ideas. Jill Mathis was an apprentice to Ralph Gibson, and so she came to the attention of Arthur Kowaloff '68, who donated two portfolios of her photographs to the Carleton collection.
