Series based on Gerhart Hauptmann’s Play, The Weavers, which Kollwitz saw at private performance in Berlin, 26 February 1893. Based on historical uprising of Silesian workers in 1844. Kollwitz’s series made over four years, effectively her apprenticeship in the Graphic arts. Series first exhibited 1898 at Women Artists Exhibition, Gurlitt Gallery, Berlin.
