These graceful ceramic figurines, produced in the city of Tanagra in Boeotia, were very popular in the Hellenistic period. Representing pretty women and everyday figures, these terra-cotta statuettes were placed in shrines and tombs. The elaborate drapery, revealing knowledge of the body beneath, demonstrates a connection to trends in large-scale sculpture of the period.
