Audrey Flack uses the still-life genre to celebrate sensual pleasures central to the female experience. Her 1970s hyper-realist representations of dressing-table tops cluttered with make-up embody a feminist embrace of the "art" of make-up. This print, with its eye-catching palette, also invokes the pleasures of taste. Recently Flack presents over-life sized sculptures of classical goddesses, given new life by modern feminism.

From the Presidential Portfolio, commissioned by Joan Mondale.
