This waterside scene demonstrates changing treatment of perspective in Ukiyo-e and modern landscape prints. Hiroshige’s image presents the traditional birds-eye-view with a high horizon line, looking at the landscape from an unspecified viewpoint suspended in the air. At the same time he has modified the traditional Japanese perspective with the Western techniques, creating a believable, seemingly natural space.
